The State government accords priority for implementing various welfare schemes for the benefit of Adi Dravidar community people in the State, said A.Tamilarasi, Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare, on Monday.
The Minister who inaugurated several multipurpose buildings and development works in the Manakkal, Kuzhumur and Vettiarvettu Adi Dravidar colonies in Manakkal panchayat in Ariyalur district, said that more than Rs.five crore had been spent for implementation of various welfare schemes and development works including construction of school buildings, basic amenities and other infrastructure facilities in the Adi Dravidar colonies.
Mrs Tamilarasi said that Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi took special steps and has sanctioned Rs.110 crore through NABARD for various development works in the Adi Dravidar colonies. The Minister said that the pass percentage in the Adi Dravidar schools in the State had crossed more than 80 per cent in the SSLC and Plus Two public examinations.
The Minister also distributed free house site pattas to seven beneficiaries and marriage grants of Rs.20,000 to 59 beneficiaries under Moovalur Ramamirtham Marriage Assistance Scheme.
Collector T.Abraham who presided over the function explained in detail the various development and welfare schemes being implemented in the district for the benefit of the Adi Dravidar community people. MLAs Palai.D.Amaramurthy (Ariyalur) and Rajkumar (Perambalur) and other dignitaries spoke.
Earlier, the Minister who inspected the Adi Dravidar students hostel at Government Arts College in Ariyalur advised the students to keep the hostel clean and tidy. She also instructed the officials to provide the facilities required by the students.
