Five soil testing centres planned

ARIYALUR: Soil testing centres with farm laboratories would be set up in five primary agricultural cooperative societies (PACS) soon in Ariyalur district under the National Agricultural Development Programme (NADP), said Collector T.K.Ponnusamy, here on Friday.


Presiding over the 57 {+t} {+h} all India cooperative week celebrations here, the Collector said agriculture service centres had been started in the PACS at Vadaveekam, Kallathoor, Keezhakaavattankurichi, Ponparapi, Tirumazhapadi, Keezhapazhur, Ambapur and Udayarpalayam.


He said one soil testing centre would be set up in each panchayat union. The Collector said PACS had disbursed crop loan to the tune of Rs.29.66 crore to 10,643 farmers in the district during the current year till the end of last month and wanted the farmers to repay their loans promptly and avail of interest concession announced by the government. He said Rs.1.54 crore had been disbursed as medium term loan by the co-operative societies and revolving fund of Rs.3.53 crore to 311 women self help groups. Mr Ponnusamy said the PACS were providing jewel loan and added the district central co-operative bank had provided Rs.20 lakh each to weak PACS for disbursing jewel loans. He said there were 401 fair price shops and essential commodities were being distributed to 3,29,353 family card holders.
